The Athenian hero Theseus wanted to break this cycle, and succeeded by slaying the Minotaur and escaping the maze with the help of Princess Ariadne. King Minos held Daedalus responsible for Theseus’ escape, and imprisoned him with his son Icarus on the island of Crete. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDetermined to regain their freedom, Daedalus crafted two pairs of wings from feathers and wax, one for himself and one for his son Icarus. Before they took flight, he warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, where the heat would melt the wax and he would fall into the sea. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBut as they took off, Icarus became ambitious and gritty by the thrill of the flight. Ignoring his father’s warning, he rose higher and higher towards the sun. The heat melted the wax that held his wings together, and the feathers scattered into the wind. Icarus thought himself greater than Helios, the Sun himself, and the god punished him directly.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAlisa Efremova works primarily with painting and mixed media, building her works through multiple layers of paint. Her process is intuitive and experimental: rather than working towards a fixed image, she responds to what develops on the canvas. Colours, forms and gestures are repeatedly added, changed and reworked, creating depth and movement within the work. Met dit ontwerp willen we stilstaan bij de vrouwen die zijn vermoord en tegelijkertijd aandacht vragen voor het geweld dat hieraan voorafgaat en dat nog altijd plaatsvindt.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDe data in het ontwerp verwijzen naar dagen uit het afgelopen jaar waarop vrouwen in Nederland door geweld om het leven zijn gekomen. Het gaat daarbij om verschillende vormen van geweld, waaronder partnergeweld, geweld door ex-partners en ander gendergerelateerd geweld. Het ontwerp is nadrukkelijk geen volledige registratie van alle slachtoffers.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe publiceren bewust geen namen en gaan zorgvuldig om met de privacy van slachtoffers en hun nabestaanden. Voor het ontwerp is uitsluitend gebruikgemaakt van datums die publiekelijk bekend zijn gemaakt, onder andere door publieke omroepen en de politie. We hebben geen aanvullende persoonsgegevens of niet-openbare gegevens verzameld of gebruikt.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHet shirt is daarmee niet alleen een ontwerp, maar ook een momentopname van een werkelijkheid die helaas nog niet voorbij is. De data op het shirt zijn een herinnering aan vrouwen die hun leven door geweld verloren.
