About the work

Alisa Efremova works primarily with painting and mixed media, building her works through multiple layers of paint. Her process is intuitive and experimental: rather than working towards a fixed image, she responds to what develops on the canvas. Colours, forms and gestures are repeatedly added, changed and reworked, creating depth and movement within the work. Her use of spontaneous gestures and layering gives each painting an evolving, almost tactile quality.
