This piece shows a traditional street fruit vendor, or vendedora, and is part of Rodrigo Torres’ series about solitary workers. Through this work, Rodrigo reflects on memory, his roots and the everyday resilience he grew up around in El Salvador. The bright colours carry the warmth of home, while the subject highlights the reality of street work with dignity.
Rodrigo Torres is a visual artist from El Salvador, currently living in Germany and beginning his studies at HFBK Hamburg this autumn. His main practice is painting, exploring memory, place and the experience of moving between different worlds. His work has been exhibited in Amsterdam, Barcelona and Cologne.
For Rodrigo, clothing is another canvas. His interest in fashion grew through experimenting with upcycling and textiles, and he sees garments as a way for art to move beyond the gallery and into everyday life. Placing the vendedora on a hoodie connects his cultural roots with contemporary street culture.
